| Studying
and Practicing The Intellectual Art Of Equine Massage Therapy |
| Your
course with its exam structure has been staggered in a progressive and
absorbing system, allowing you to enjoy your studies with no pressure. |
| There
are no deadlines for completion, you set the pace that works best for you. |
| The
course is divided into three fascinating modules, with each one exploring
the many essential subjects needed to understand equine massage therapy.
Each module also comes with home tasks for you to experiment with. These
are a time to put down your books and have some hands on fun, either on
your own or with a friend |
| Every
student studying with Equine Design is invited to use the course help lines whenever
they feel the need for help, support or questions they may need answering. |
| Should
you wish to take the course I am confident you will enjoy your studies,
and, with what you learn will be able to communicate your thanks,
love and healing to your horse by the power of touch, one of the
most natural and effective methods of healing and communication recognised
and understood by both man and horse |
| Clinics |
| Massage
day clinics are always a fun and fascinating experience, for both horses
and humans |
| If you
and some of your friends would like to have a massage clinic held at your
stables, riding school or livery yard these can be arranged. |
| Personally
arranged clinics include all massage subjects, though can also be tailored
to include the amount of people attending, location of your establishment,
your horses working disciplines together with any specific subjects that you
may require a more in-depth review of. |
| Questions |
| Will
my horse enjoy his massage and how will I know? |
| Oh
yes! Just as us humans move our bodies to release the experience of a pain
or tension, so do our horses. Your horses personal signs of pleasure from
massage are visible signs of relaxation such as deeper breathing (even
groaning), sleepiness, the lowering of the neck, head, eyelids, tail and
shoulders. On areas experiencing the release of tension or pain, the horse
will often lean or stretch into the therapists massage application. The
horse beginning to lick and chew in satisfaction is also a common
sign of pleasure. |
| What
can my horse and I expect from the first massage? |
| Massage
on its own will always provide positive effects on the healthy horse.
However, do bear in mind the following very valid points. |
| The
first massage will provide positive and effective results to most horses. |
| Initial
changes are usually seen within the horses character, either calmer and
more relaxed or more alert depending upon the techniques and applications used
and required. |
| The
following time you ride your horse (advised to wait 24 hours) you may
experience your horses more relaxed and free flowing strides |
| More
noticeable changes and healing obtained through Equine Massage Therapy
will take on average between 3 or 4 sessions, performed between every 4 -
7 days, depending upon your horses working discipline, general fitness,
general day to day care and regular maintenance routine. |
| The
first appropriate equine massage therapy session will: |
| Provide
relief to your horse from his muscular tension. |
| Provide
benefits from waking up sluggish circularatory systems giving your horse a
more relaxed lighter feel to his body. |
| Enhance
his proprioceptive sense |
| These
benefits will not remain a permanent part of his life unless incorporated
into his general maintenance and day to day routine care. |
| What
happens during the first massage consultation? |
| When
I first visit a client with their horse I would have already obtained some
general information from the horse owner or groom (owners
permission needed before massage commences)
at the time of booking. This way, I have a good idea, though not an
expectation of possible requirements and needs of the horse. |
| A
chat with the horses owner or groom on the difficulties their horse is
experiencing, how long and when they are more noticeable |
| Conformation
assessment of the horse along with the general working routine and whether
their horse lives in or out. |
| Establish
tack and rugs used, when and why. |
| Establish
a general overview of their horses diet. |
| Assess
your horses general gaits in walk and trot both straight and lateral. |
| I
always introduce myself to your horse, accustoming him to my smell, voice
and general presence around him whilst gaining a general overview of his
character. |
| Before
beginning the appropriate massage treatment , I explain to the owner /
groom what I shall be doing and why as well as explain what the horse will
experience. |
| Upon
completion
of the initial Massage session I introduce the horse to some gentle
stretches relative to his condition, which again I explain to the owner
(groom). |
| The
session is ended with a chat to the owner on the findings and my
recommendations on future care such as future massages and stretching
programmes that the owner can incorporate into their horses day to day
care routine that can help, heal and prevent certain difficulties personal
to the horse with my findings on this first visit. |
| I
always provide a fully detailed case report upon every massage visit. |
| What
are your fees? |
| A
fully inclusive massage, advice and stretching application is £35.00. The
first visit usually lasts 11/2 - 2 hours. Subsequent visits are usually 1
- 11/2hours. The price is non-variable, thus should the visit last longer
than expected there is no extra charge. |
| Every
client is free to email or phone me anytime with any worries, concerns or
questions they may have in-between sessions. |
| Are
there any hidden extras? |
| NO! |
| The
choice of daytime, early morning, evening and weekend appointments are all
the same price |
| Do
you offer any other services? |
| YES! |
| Group
visits to various equine establishments with discounts for 3+ |
| Daytime
and evening clinics at your equine establishment. |

events - pre-show, post-show inc show assistance for your horses physical
and psychological preparation and recuperation. |

| A
Bit About Me |
| Ever
since I can remember, all my memories see me in the stables and fields,
come rain or shine, always with one of our faithful companions - the
horse, along with all the happiness and loyalty they gave me. Throughout
my childhood, into my teenage years and now into my well established adult
life I have always remained totally devoted to the care and companionship
of my own and others horses. |
| From
my teenage years, I began to realise that horses were missing out on the
powers and workings of natural healing remedies, that, for thousands of
years had proved hugely beneficial for humans. Thankfully,
the recognition and awareness of introducing these methods into the lives
of our horses is now an accepted inclusion into our horses maintenance and
general health care. |
| Understanding
how and why equine massage therapy helps the horse subsequently banishes
many misinterpreted labels that are far too liberally placed upon the
horse by humans such as naughty, lazy, stubborn, mad or silly. |
| feel as blessed today, as I did as a child to share my life with these
wonderful animals, and now being able to help them live lives of improved
comfort both physically and emotionally. |

| I
have a keen interest and continue to study the laws of biomechanics,
which I see as vital knowledge in the assessment and practice of Equine Massage
Therapy with gait analysis. |
| My
studies of equine psychology are also a vital requirement to me. This
acquired knowledge enables me to communicate more effectively with our
horses, highlighting the often unseen signs of unhappiness, pain or stress
shown by our horses. |
